VNOTES Hysterectomy: First in Macedonia, Still Only at Plodnost
17 June 2025

When we first introduced VNOTES hysterectomy (Vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery) in North Macedonia, we set a new benchmark for minimally invasive gynaecological care. To this day, Plodnost Hospital remains the only facility in the country performing this advanced surgical technique.
I mastered the method during advanced training at Imelda Hospital in Bonheiden, Belgium, under the mentorship of Prof. Jan Baekelandt, the pioneer of VNOTES surgery. There, minimally invasive and robotic procedures are part of daily practice. Our mission was clear: to offer women in Macedonia a smarter, faster, and more comfortable recovery, aligned with the highest European standards.
Together with the team at Plodnost, we successfully performed the first VNOTES hysterectomy in the country – with no abdominal incisions, using a natural orifice approach.
No visible scars
Far less pain
Recovery within just a few days
The technique ensures exceptional precision and significantly reduces the risk of infection or hernias, since the skin and abdominal wall remain untouched. Patients go home 30–50% faster than with classical hysterectomy techniques.
But this isn’t a skill you pick up overnight – it requires months of hands-on training, anatomical reorientation, and surgical finesse.
Today, at Plodnost, VNOTES is not limited to hysterectomy. We also use it to:
-
Remove ovarian cysts
-
Perform salpingectomies (removal of fallopian tubes)
-
Treat ectopic pregnancies
All with minimal trauma and maximum efficiency, bringing the same standard of care found in Europe’s top clinics now available in Macedonia.
