Fetal Anatomy Scans

Fetal Anatomy Scans

At Hospital Plodnost, we specialize in comprehensive fetal anatomy scans, providing expectant parents with the highest standard of prenatal care. Our experienced gynaecology specialists utilize advanced ultrasound technology to monitor your baby’s development throughout pregnancy, ensuring precise and detailed insights into fetal health.

Fetal anatomy scans are critical ultrasound examinations performed at key stages during pregnancy. These scans are essential for evaluating the development of major fetal organs and systems, allowing for early detection of any potential complications. Our gynaecology experts perform these scans with precision, ensuring that you receive the most accurate and detailed information about your baby’s health.

During the first trimester, between 12+0 and 13+6 weeks of gestation, our specialists perform a detailed ultrasound scan to confirm the gestational age, estimate the delivery date, and assess the development of the major fetal organs. This early pregnancy scan is crucial for identifying chromosomal markers and detecting risks for conditions such as preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. Given the rapid development of the fetus at this stage, a follow-up scan later in pregnancy is often recommended.

The second-trimester scan, ideally conducted between 20-22 weeks, is the most comprehensive assessment of fetal anatomy. This detailed ultrasound allows our specialists to evaluate the heart, brain, spine, face, and limbs with high accuracy. Additionally, ongoing screening for chromosomal abnormalities and the risk of premature delivery is conducted. A Doppler ultrasound is also performed to assess the blood flow between the mother and the fetus, providing valuable insights into placental function. For optimal results, this scan may be scheduled after 22 weeks in patients with higher body mass.

In the third trimester, between 28-30 weeks, our focus shifts to detecting any structural abnormalities that may present later in pregnancy. This advanced ultrasound scan also monitors fetal growth and development, ensuring that the baby is progressing as expected. We use advanced imaging techniques to offer a more detailed view, although challenges such as bone calcification and fetal position may affect visualization. However, our specialists are equipped to overcome these challenges and provide the most accurate assessments.

At Hospital Plodnost, our highly qualified gynaecology team is dedicated to offering comprehensive prenatal care in a comfortable and supportive environment. Our ultrasound services cover all stages of pregnancy, ensuring a thorough evaluation of your baby’s development.
