The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at Hospital Plodnost offers a number of molecular-biological techniques that include proving, analyzing and detecting the presence or absence of certain pathogens (bacterial and viral infections), early detection of diseases (presence or absence of mutations related to specific genetic disease) and genetic conditions. Detection is performed using universal PCR technique, namely real-time PCR and multiplex-real time PCR based on detection of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) which are much more sensitive and specific compared to traditional methods for detecting viruses and bacteria.
Within the laboratory for molecular diagnostics, there is also a COVID center in which analyzes for detection of SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19, recognized and approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Northern Macedonia and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory offers the following analyzes and tests:
1. Covid-19 analysis
– Molecular RT-PCR detection of SARS-CovV2 (Covid19)
– Molecular RT-PCR detection of SARS-CovV2 (Covid19) and Influenza A + Influenza B
– Rapid antigen test
2. Femoflor Screeen analysis
3. Androflor Screen analysis
4. HPV-Quant21 molecular analysis – detection of 21 types of high-risk and low-risk HPV
5. Molecular assays for detection of Candida spp., Ureaplasma spp. and Gardnerela vaginalis
6. GBS- molecular analysis for detection of Streptococcus agalactiae
7. MTNC- molecular analysis for detection of sexually transmitted infections (Mycoplasma genitalium, 8. Trichomonas vaginalis, Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae)
8. Molecular analysis for early detection of lactose intolerance
9. Molecular detection of mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes
