At 56, She Gave Birth to Dorotea – Another IVF Milestone at Hospital Plodnost

When persistence, science and human hope come together, life finds its way. At Hospital Plodnost, we have witnessed many powerful stories, but the journey of Sladjana Stajnerman from Serbia is one that stands out.
Living in Germany, Sladjana came to Hospital Plodnost one year ago with one deep wish – to become a mother. At 56 years old, and despite the challenges, she held on to hope. Our medical team carefully assessed her case and confirmed that with the right treatment plan, motherhood was still possible.
On April 23, 2025, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Dorotea – a name that means “gift from God.” The baby was delivered slightly ahead of schedule due to water retention and swelling in the final month of pregnancy, but was born in perfect health with the highest APGAR score.
With her permission, we share the beautiful message she sent us:
“Good afternoon Doctor,
Congratulations on another success. On April 23, little Dorotea was born a bit early because in the eighth month I started swelling a lot. My body was retaining water, so they delivered me 15 days before the due date. But nothing serious – the most important thing is that the baby is healthy and scored a 10.
Of course, when it comes to you, I expected nothing less. The Germans were speechless – a 56-year-old woman, first-time IVF and success. All my congratulations to you and the whole team.
I am still recovering, but when I feel ready, I will share this story publicly, if you agree. I was in constant contact with the biologists, who meant a lot to me – especially Goran and Stefan, who supported me the whole time.
Warm regards and thank you for this happiness.”
Sladjana’s story is more than a result. It is a message of hope. For every woman who wonders if it’s too late, this is a reminder that with proper medical care, experience and a personalised IVF approach – age can be just a number.
We thank our biology team, especially Goran and Stefan, for their dedicated support throughout her journey.
From all of us at Hospital Plodnost – welcome to the world, Dorotea. May your life be as extraordinary as your arrival.
