Diathermocoagulation

Diathermocoagulation (DTC) of the cervix is a therapeutic procedure in which, using a special ball-shaped electrode, the surface layer of the affected cervical area is cauterised. The procedure is performed under local or general anaesthesia by a specialist gynaecologist. Before the procedure, verbal and written explanations regarding the nature of diathermocoagulation are provided, and the patient must give written informed consent.

Indications for DTC:

• Presence of low-risk changes in cervical mucosal cells, confirmed by histological examination from a previously performed biopsy;
• Large ectopy (“wound”) on the cervix associated with heavy vaginal bleeding;
• Chronic vaginal discharge;
• Vaginal bleeding after intercourse.
