PAP Smear

The PAP smear is a cytological examination of a sample taken from the outer surface of the cervix and the cervical canal during a routine gynaecological examination. The sample is fixed and sent to a specialised laboratory for evaluation by a certified pathologist. Using staining techniques and microscopic examination, the pathologist determines the type and extent of cellular changes on the surface of the cervix and the beginning of the cervical canal.

This examination does not require any special preparation. It is usually performed in the first few days after the end of a regular menstrual cycle. Results are typically available within a few working days and are personally received by the patient after consultation with a doctor.
