During this consultation, an ultrasound examination is usually performed to definitively confirm the presence of an intrauterine pregnancy. The ultrasound has a significant clinical advantage over the urine test as it provides valuable information about the pregnancy’s location. The proper intrauterine implantation of the gestational sac is crucial for the normal development of the pregnancy.

A transvaginal ultrasound is often necessary to accurately assess the rapidly developing embryo. This examination is performed on a gynaecological chair or couch and usually does not require any special preparation.
